Forests and woodlands are never truly "abandoned" like buildings or an entire city, but simply forgotten and neglected, can evoke a sense liminality that's hard to grasp or explain in words. A feeling of that one can neither "go forward or hesitate," -- a state of the known and the unfamiliar.
